Eco School

Our Eco Council has beennewly elected and we are now working hard to bring back many of the Ecoinitiatives we were working on prior to the Pandemic, as well as developing newprojects and ideas.

There are numerous areas which we can choose from to develop but in working towards our next Green Flag, we are focussing on Biodiversity as our major target and Waste, Energy and Outdoor Learning as our minor targets.

In developing our school grounds, which links strongly with Biodiversity and Outdoor Learning, we are delighted to announce we have been successful in our application for the Live Here, Love Here Pollinator Grant which will allow us to plant our very own Woodland and Wildflower Area in our school grounds. This will be a fantastic addition to Gortin Primary School. Once established, it will encourage wild life and insects into our school setting and provide endless Outdoor Learning opportunities.

In regards to our minor topics, the pupils are back to monitoring light and computer usage to try and curb our energy costs, as well as washing and recycling all plastic from snack and lunch, and recycling bottle tops, pens, and stamps. The bottle tops are going towards making wheelchairs from recycled plastic and the stamps go directly to the RNIB.
